Most Cali Self-Rescue lessons are five days a week, Monday - Friday, for about ten minutes a day.
We focus on one-on-one, private lessons and your child has our full attention for the entire lesson. We start as young as your child has the ability to sit up independently, usually around six months old. We do start children at any age after this age.
Lessons for your 6 - 30 month old are focused on teaching your child to roll onto their back to float, rest and breathe, and to be able to maintain this life-saving position until help arrives. Some older students, when ready will be taught to swim and float.
Lessons for your older child focus on teaching the swim-float-swim sequence. Children learn to swim with their head down, roll onto their back, rest and breathe, and roll back over to resume swimming until they reach the edge of the pool, where they can either crawl out or wait until help arrives.
Once the children are fully skilled they will practice their survival techniques fully clothed during lessons. The majority of drownings occur during non-swim time so all of our students practice their skills fully clothed. It is recommended that children complete refresher lessons or routine maintenance lessons to help their in-water skill level grow with their physical development.
